Familia Girls
For many girls living in poverty, adolescence marks a turning point. Limited educational opportunities, early marriage, female circumcision, abuse and exploitation can place them at significant risk and restrict their chances of building an independent future.
Since 2013, The Familia Foundation has been providing a safe and loving family environment for vulnerable girls who cannot remain safely at home. Through care, protection and support, we help girls move beyond crisis and towards opportunity.
Girls in our programme receive accommodation, food, clothing, healthcare and educational support. They also have access to counselling, life-skills training and guidance on their rights and responsibilities, helping them grow in confidence and prepare for adulthood.
We currently care for 11 girls full-time, providing accommodation, education, emotional support and long-term safeguarding in a family-style environment where they can feel safe, valued and hopeful about the future.
Our commitment does not end when a girl finishes school. We continue to support young women for as long as they need us, helping them become both emotionally and financially independent. Today, three young women who grew up within the Familia programme are studying at university, pursuing degrees in Education, Nursing, and International Relations, while a fourth hopes to begin a Law degree in September 2026. A further seven girls and young women, who grew up with Familia, have now successfully been reintegrated into their families or moved on to independent living, demonstrating the long-term impact of the support and stability provided through Familia.
These achievements reflect our belief that lasting change comes not simply from providing safety in a moment of crisis, but from walking alongside each girl until she is ready to build a successful and independent future of her own.
What does home mean to you?
